An elegant and simple felt wool shroud.
The Bellacouche Heritage Wool Shroud is the most environmentally friendly option for a burial. Some crematoria will accept shrouds for cremation. The thickness and layers of the felt give a smooth outline, unlike a conventional cloth wrap and more like a papoose.
“The cremation took place today and the shroud was so very well received. I think people’s perception of a shroud, was suitably banished once they saw your crafstmanship. I know it gave some of them the realisation that a funeral does not always have to have the traditional wooden ‘box’!” A.Croft, Towners Funeral Directors, Hastings. Jan. 2022
Optional extras are:
- 2 or 3 pairs of handles (one for each side) sewn into the base for easy carrying to the grave. The handles are strong, with wooden inserts covered in felt that is soft to the touch.
- Solid wood board (glue free) for ease of carrying; the wood is sustainably sourced from a Devon woodland and prepared by Andrew Vaccari.
- Cover (optional)- plain for you to decorate, or bespoke decoration.
“Integrated board and handles made it more practical without needing additional items for the funeral…. We were really pleased with the shroud and the experience of ordering it was personal, but still simple and easily navigated”. B.R. Feb 2021
The Heritage Shroud is designed for burial and can be used in any cemetery, churchyard, natural burial ground or home burial. One piece solid wood boards are used for stability and ease of carrying. When wider boards are required they are joined with dry dowelling and lashed together with hemp rope, no glues. Everything is made by hand of 100% natural materials.
If you are considering a cremation, the Oseberg Cradle is the best option and has the necessary certification, or you can buy the Heritage Shroud on its own for use with a conventional coffin.
Order on-line or please Contact Yuli for urgent orders and personal help and advice. Normally takes 2 to 3 working days for delivery.
“We used Bellacouche’s simple shroud at a burial. It looked beautiful and elegant. It was very easy to handle and use. It sat on trestles for the main ceremony.” Simon Smith Heart & Soul Funerals. August 2020
” It makes the whole experience of sitting with death so much more real than a coffin. And her body just seemed incredibly well held, and entrusted to the felt. Thank you for providing this service. It is a real gift”. – Gladys Paulus, September 2020
