The Postcard Needle Felting Kit

£25.00

Learn to draw with natural wool fibres on postcard sized flat felt. This is a 2D needle felting kit and the techniques are simple. You can follow guidance on the video below and in the kit, create your own designs, perhaps a message you want to convey and send to a friend.

It’s great for adults as well as children, depending on their dexterity.  I recommend it for children over 7 years, but some younger children might like to have a go too.  My years of experience making felt in schools showed me that felt making and needle felting can overcome inhibitions about drawing: this is just another medium, not with pencil and paper, but with wool and can truly liberate the artist that is in us all!

All my kits are plastic free, and in this case, the bag becomes the needle felting pad – 100% wool! – so there’s absolutely no waste. The colour of the bag varies (brown or white).  The fibres are supplied by a Devon wool processor using locally sourced wools.

In the kit:

  • Simple instructions
  • 3 Felting needles
  • 2 Postcard sized flat felts
  • Wool fibres (tops); turquoise, deep red, gold, dark green, plus black and white
  • Felting pad (do not remove from the bag)

You can order extra wool and/or extra flat felts, and larger ones too, for scaling up. The wool provided is best used sparingly, and will be enough for several postcards. Take a look at the Needle Felting Tool kit, which provides you with a beautifully crafted 3-needle wooden felting tool, a larger pad and presented in a lovely felt bag.

“What I realise is that it is effectively drawing/painting with wool….I have been enjoying creating birthday cards for people….Thank you so much – your video is SO helpful, and the sounds of birdsong make it an entrancing experience.”  S. Stamp 2021

Add optional extras:

Add any quantity of extra flat felts and wool to your kit.

Spills on felt can usually be easily sponged off.  Wool has the wonderful ability to ‘wear clean’, in other words, it will hold a lot of dirt before it is noticeable, so frequent washing is unnecessary and environmentally undesirable.  Also, depending on the vigour with which you wash the felt, a certain amount of shrinkage will happen, which on the one hand strengthens it, and on the other, makes it smaller.  So care must be taken to be gentle.

Hand washing of felt can actually improve its quality and strengthen it.

Wash in hand hot water using any good bar or powder soap, rinse, squeeze in a towel, pull into shape and leave to dry.
